We correct errors promptly, clearly and without burying them. Our goal is that a reader who saw the error also sees the correction.
How corrections work
- Factual errors are corrected in the article as soon as they are verified.
- Materially corrected articles display an updated date.
- Significant corrections are noted within the article text.
- We do not silently delete articles to avoid correcting them.
Updates versus corrections
Developing stories are updated as new information emerges; updates add information, corrections fix errors. Both display an updated timestamp. An “Updated” label only ever appears when an article has actually changed.
